Studio Neat’s Cosmonaut Review
In the search for a stylus that would work for me. I decided to pick up the Cosmonaut by Studio Neat. It’s sturdy design, large grip, and weighted body made it seem like the work-horse I’ve been looking for from quick sketches with clients and partners, to wireframing at work. My first impressions where great. The pen seems like everything I’d hoped for, lets just hope it holds up in testing against my iPad 2 with invisheild cover.
The Cosmonaut by Studio Neat is probably one of the best styluses I’ve used for the Apple iPad. I found it durable reliable smooth and comfortable to use. My testing was primarily with Autodesk Sketchbook Pro, and after sketching for over 30 min. straight with The Cosmonaut on my iPad (using only its smart cover to brace it), it held up to a beating.
I was able to accurately sketch small lines, shady character, and brush of background, and more with this reliable beast of a stylus. And I’m no Picasso when it comes to drawing. In comparison to the Pogo Sketch stylus, this thing performs beautifully. It beats it in almost every single way. It’s nice to hold, the tip can take a beating, and I can apply enough pressure to penetrate the Zagg Invisibleshield easily. You got to get your hands on this thing!
If you have a large hands this is the stylus for you, it’s large enough to fit comfortably in any size hand, but small enough to still be able to pick up your cup of coffee with it between your thumb and fingers. This device is beyond just a cool video on Studio Neat’s website it’s a truly useful tool. If you are like me and on the quest to find the perfect stylus for your iPad… you just found it.
The performance only got better once I tried it out in Adobe Ideas. I found myself even leaving during applications and using the stylus to poke around the mail app when I got a notification. the aluminum core inside the tip was strong enough for me to push the home button on the iPad without worrying about damaging the stylus. If I have to complain, I’m sure that the weight of The Cosmonautwould feel cumbersome after using it for over an hour. But if you plan on making your writing or sketching sessions brief, I don’t see any reason why you should have a problem.
Embarrassingly I have sweaty hands. If you have this problem too, you know that what you’re holding in your hand he get pretty uncomfortable especially when there’s any sort of moisture. The rubber grip on the cosmonaut is fantastic and lets you overcome this problem easily. Simply put this is my new favorite iPad accessory and you need to go out and get one if you do any sort of sketching, drawing, wire framing, or just want to write notes with the stylist on your iPad.
Final verdict 9/10
The Good:
Extremely durable stylists with great grip control and solid build and accurate tip.The Bad:
The heavier build could feel cumbersome after a few hours of straight use.
